SPLIT or Aluminium rings are NOT really suitable for Parrot-like birds requiring larger than size V.
A SPLIT ring is not nearly as strong as a CLOSED ring and therefore can be crushed by the bird on to its own leg.

Different coloured Split Plastic Rings are very useful for identification purposes if you have birds that look very similar.
They are also very useful if you have missed your "Ringing age" and can no longer get closed rings to fit over the foot.
Also birds that don't like to be disturbed in the nest ~ parents may abandon or attack the young if you handle them.
Note: All Wild-type, Captive-bred species and CITES BIRDS must be CLOSE RUNG
